Boughtcha!

Buy stuff, I did. Yesterday, it was the turn of 'The guide' and 'Indireya maga, Sanjay'(Kannada, Ravi Belagere). Today the honours went to 'Spy princess : the story of Noor Inayat Khan.' There's a factual error in the very first page of the first chapter("Babuli"):- it says Tipu Sultan died fighting the British in Srirangapatna in 1793. Tipu was alive for a good six years after that. The fourth Anglo-Mysore war in 1799 saw him meet an untimely death. Tipu's summer palace houses a wonderful museum which contains paintings of his life and death.

Anyhow, that factual error apart, the book seems promising. The central figure is such a fascinating person that the book might have written itself, given a chance. A Russian-born woman of Indian origin, growing up in France(in a house called 'Fazal Manzil,' in a place called Suresnes), fleeing to Britain after the German invasion of France, serving the British army as a radio operator and an undercover agent, geeting captured by the Germans, being tortured by them for information but not revealing anything(not even her real name. She went by the spy alias, Madeleine), dying by gunshot at Dachau.

If you haven't read it, do. If you have already read it, read it again. I started today. Let's see how long it takes for me to finish it. I'm getting slower nowadays.

A lot of bookshops in Bangalore, big ones, are out of copies of 'Dune.' I want to sue. They do have 'The motorcycle diaries,' you.
